Book Review for THE AFTERLIFE by Gary Soto

I read THE AFTERLIFE by Gary Soto a while back and really enjoyed it. The main character, Chuy is your not so typical macho looking guy but finally lands a date with Rachel. A night out leads to horror for Chuy. As he is in the bathroom, he is stabbed by a guy with yellow shoes. Chuy is left lying in his pool of blood and dies. As he dies, his soul leaves his body and begins to experience the "afterlife." Chuy's soul drifts to various neighborhood places and discovers others like him. He sees his friends and family mourn his death and begins to experience what life and love are truly about.
